About the London Parks & Gardens Trust
The London Parks & Gardens Trust (LPGT) is an independent charitable trust established in 1994. Its aims are to increase knowledge and appreciation of historic parks and gardens in London and it seeks to conserve London’s green spaces for the education and enjoyment of the public.
LPGT organises regular events including winter lectures and summer walks, study days and conferences. The annual Open Garden Squares Weekend in June, when many private squares and other gardens are open to the public, is run by LPGT,
LPGT publishes a regular newsletter, London Landscapes, and an annual journal, The London Gardener, as well as other publications and leaflets, including walks and cycle rides in London. LPGT’s education project, London Parks Discovery Project, and the associated web-based resource provides an invaluable resource for teachers, parents and children, see www.parkexplorer.org.uk.
LPGTs London Inventory of Historic Green Spaces, initiated in 1995, was launched in 2003 and continues to grow. London Gardens Online is the latest outcome of this project [see About the Project].
Volunteers support LPGT’s work in many invaluable ways, including administration, archival, and through an active Research Group. Although it is a membership organisation, LPGT’s activities are available to the wider public.
